Budget & Fuel - 23 April 2009
Unfortunately it's more bad news for drivers, fuel duty is set to rise across the board by 2 pence a litre for both petrol and diesel starting from September, then for the next four years there will be a further one pence tax added to each litre above indexation each April. There are to be no exemptions for commercial drivers unfortunately.
However there was one bit of good news that came out of the budget which was the widely publicised scrapping scheme, where by you will be able to claim a £2000 rebate of a new car or van if you trade in a vehicle 10 years or older, this will take effect from next month and run until March 2010 in an attempt to bolster the struggling automotive industry.
It will only apply to new vehicles, which is not good news for the lease and car rental industry which had hoped that nearly new vehicles would also be included.
The BVRLA condemned the scheme as ill-thought out.
