Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation programme

A new initative has been announced called the Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation programme, the idea is to increase the use of biofuels by the transport sector to reduce carbon emissions from the likes of Vans, Van & Car Hire Companies, and trucks. The idea is that fuel suppliers will need to ensure that of the fuel the sell in the UK at least 5% is biodiesel, other European countries have already implemented such initiatives - France and Germany for example. This is unlikely to have any significant impact on fuel prices as such biofuels have lower duty rates to offset their higher cost, though the supply and demand situation may push up the prices of pure biodiesel fuels .
